School administration is a branch of educational administration aimed at organizing the various tasks performed by school staff to achieve specific goals with minimal effort, in the shortest time, and with the best results.
The objectives of school administration have evolved, and its scope has expanded in modern times. It is no longer a mere routine process focused on the orderly management of school affairs according to fixed rules and regulations limited to administrative aspects. Instead, it has grown to encompass technical matters and everything related to students, faculty, curricula, teaching methods, school activities, technical supervision, and the relationship between the school and the local community, as well as other aspects directly or indirectly connected to the educational process. The development and modernization of learning today face numerous challenges, chief among them the need for modern, scientific school administration, embodied by the principal, whose leadership behavior is a vital element in the management and organization of the school, determining its effectiveness and efficiency. Successful school administration is the cornerstone of the educational process; it sets the benchmarks and maps out the paths to achieve common goals within a specified timeframe. It also devises the means to review actions and track results purposefully, which aids in reconsidering and amending regulations, activities, and legislation, or rethinking implementation methods to achieve desired objectives.
A conscious school administration aims to enhance the educational process and elevate performance levels by raising awareness among school staff about their responsibilities and providing them with sound educational guidance.
This modest work is presented to school administrators, all educational leaders—including supervisors and teachers—and anyone in a leadership or educational authority position. It is also intended for university and community college students and all those interested in administrative work, with the hope that it will be beneficial in improving administrative practices and achieving educational goals.
This book is divided into sixteen study units. The first and second units cover the definition of school administration, its functions, theories, characteristics, and the selection and training of principals. The third unit discusses modern trends in school administration, including e-administration, school change, and total quality management. The fourth unit addresses educational leadership, its pillars, styles, and theories. The fifth and sixth units delve into communication in administrative work and human relations, as two crucial pillars for successful administration. The seventh unit details the tasks of all school personnel, including the principal, assistant, secretary, counselor, librarian, and more.
The remaining units, from seven to sixteen, explore the principal's roles in problem-solving and decision-making, school order and discipline, educational guidance and counseling, school health, educational planning, the principal's organizational and financial duties, the principal's role as a resident supervisor, and their role in evaluating the educational process and managing classrooms.
